5-Year-Old Nonverbal Child, ‘Who Brought Joy to Everyone,’ Found Dead in a Georgia Pond After 14-Hour Search
Police said the child disappeared “after jumping over the balcony of his residence”
A five-year-old boy has been found dead in a Georgia pond following a 14-hour search, authorities said.
Indi Bullock was discovered in the area behind the Reflections on Sweetwater Apartments in Gwinnett County on Friday, March 28, the Gwinnett County Police Department (GCPD) said in a social media post.
Bullock, who was non-verbal, was last seen at approximately 4:25 p.m. local time at the apartment complex in Lawrenceville on Thursday, March 27, police said. Authorities added that the child disappeared “after jumping over the balcony of his residence.”
The GCPD utilized “multiple resources” in their search for Bullock. He was missing for 14 hours before his body was found, 11 Alive reported.
Gwinnett County Police Corporal Ryan Winderweedle reacted to the tragedy, telling 11 Alive, “It’s emotional for everyone involved. It’s hard for everyone to deal with when you end up with an innocent child who walked away from the apartment complex and ended up in the retention pond.”
The GCPD said it does not suspect foul play at this time, but the investigation remains open. An autopsy report is pending to confirm Bullock’s cause of death.
The GCPD did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Bullock’s mother, Chakia Carter, created a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses after her son’s death.
“Indi was a bright, beautiful soul who brought joy to everyone who knew him. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled,” she wrote on the fundraising page. “If you are unable to contribute financially, we ask that you please share this fundraiser and keep Indi’s loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.”
