Capernicus R. “Caper” Brown, 41, of Galesburg, died at 12:35 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2020, at Unity Point Methodist Medical Center, Peoria, from ongoing complications caused by a burn injury when he was 10 years old.

Caper was born October 4, 1979, in Galesburg, the son of Sherri Aleen Lewis and Ronald Ray Brown.  Caper is survived by his mom, Sherri, of Galesburg; and his brother and caregiver, Joey, and his wife, Alana Brown along with their children, Sienna and Brody.  Caper is also survived by two sisters, Cassandra Berg of Wisconsin and Elizabeth Mustain of Galesburg; two additional brothers, Elric (Lyndsi) Shannon and Victor Brown both of Galesburg; his paternal grandmother, Barbara Brown of Alexis; and numerous additional nieces and nephews.

Caper Brown was our light, our inspiration, and will forever be in our hearts.  He was a burn survivor who started as a camper at the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Camp I Am Me in 1992 and continued on to become a volunteer counselor for other burn survivors.  Caper has worked as a data entry operator for Bridgeway for the past 7 years.  He wrote and published his own book “Soul Uncharred” which was released in early March of 2017.  Caper was an avid Star Wars fan and a member of the 501st Legion Midwest Garrison since 2018.  In his pastime Caper enjoyed listening to Bon Jovi, watching Nascar, and cheering on the Denver Broncos.

Cremation has been accorded.  A celebration of life will be held at Vision’s Venue sometime in the spring.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to www.ifsa.org.
