Woman in wheelchair killed in crash crossing street, driver flees

A woman in a wheelchair died early Sunday morning in Laredo in an autopedestrian accident on Saunders Street, and the suspect vehicle fled the scene.
According to the Laredo Police Department, the autopedestrian crash occurred at approximately 4:49 a.m. Sunday, May 5 at 2101 E. Saunders St. The woman was attempting to cross the street and was struck by a vehicle.
The pedestrian victim, identified as a 44-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead.
LPD said the suspect vehicle fled the scene of the accident. The LPD Crash Team was called to the scene, and this is an ongoing investigation.
